Good quality bikes are made to last but there’s certainly no harm in giving them some TLC every once in a while to make sure that they are performing at optimum.
Here are a few quick tips to help you maintain your bike:
- Keep it clean
Keeping your bike clean is perhaps the simplest thing you can do to keep it ticking over. Take some soapy water, a sponge and a toothbrush for those hard to reach places and scrub until your heart’s content. It’s one of those jobs that you’ll dread doing but absolutely love the rewards
Buy a good bicycle lubricant and use it frugally on any parts where metal touches metal.
Make sure that you’ve cleaned any parts that you’re going to lubricate to avoid a build up of oil.
- Maintain your tyres
If you don’t keep your tyres inflated they will become more susceptible to punctures – no thank you! To avoid those pesky punctures keep your tyres pumped up to the specified pressure, to do this you’ll need to invest in a decent bicycle pump with a pressure gauge.
Quite possibly the most crucial part to your bike, it is so important that you keep on top of your brakes; don’t let them wear down, make sure they’re working properly and if in doubt – get them checked out!
You may need to change, clean or tighten your brake pads all of which can be done by yourself or you can bring it in to us and we’ll take a look for you.
Just like a car, your bike should be serviced professionally once every year. Our services are just £30 plus any parts that we fit – bring it into our bike shop in Nottingham and we’ll be happy to look over it
