Alternative Ways To Get Fit Without The Gym

After an overindulgent December, where we are guessing far too many mince pies were consumed, January is the month for drawing the line and fresh starts. Many of us will have made New Years resolutions to get fitter, shed a couple of pounds and ultimately lead healthier lifestyles.

For a lot of people, joining a gym can be a daunting thought, as well as an expensive one so we’ve decided to write a guide on how you can get fit and lean without having to step foot into your local muscle beach.

  1. Dust off your old bike or invest in a new one

Now, there was no way we could leave this one off the list. Swapping the car for a bike where possible will not only save you money, but also quickly increase your fitness and help you burn lots of extra calories!

It might seem like a big investment at the start but you will quickly make that back by saving on petrol or public transport. At Aladdin’s, we have a huge range of discounted bikes, perfect for the everyday commute!

  1. Incorporate a long country walk into your weekend schedule

This is perfect for anyone wanting to ease himself or herself back into exercise after a long break. The weather might not be sunshine and blue skies, but it’s what we like to call fresh!

If you’re wrapped up warm and go well prepared with a rain mac or wellies, it can still be an enjoyable way to see more of your town, get some fresh air in your lungs and burn some calories.

  1. Home workouts

As well as exercise DVD’s, YouTube have thousands of excellent workout videos that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Invest in a good quality exercise mat; a couple of dumbbells and you’re good to go!

  1. Small changes = massive improvements

There are lots of small changes that you can make, which will equate to big changes in your fitness levels. If you’re guilty of always opting for the lift instead of the stairs, make a change! If you’re someone who drives to the corner shop when you could walk to it in 10 minutes, make a change!

  1. Join a club or take classes

Exercising with friends or family is a huge motivational boost – both in making sure you attend each week and during the sessions themselves.

Whether you enjoy dancing, football or running, there are classes and sports clubs out there for everyone, and the best thing, they usually work on a pay as you go basis.

So there you have it, Aladdin’s guide to how you can get fit in 2017 without having to step foot inside a gym!

Also remember, if you’re increasing activity as a means to shed some pounds, healthy eating is must. The general ratio is 20% diet and 80% exercise.
